The equipment EMS providers work with in the field should be effective and easy to use. The same goes for working with the distributors of that equipment; if they’re not saving you time and money, while providing excellent service and quality products, they’re not doing your agency any good.
For American Medical Response (AMR), a private ambulance service based in Greenwood Village, CO, which boasts nearly 17,000 paramedics, EMTs, nurses, doctors and support staff covering 2,100 communities across the nation, Progressive Medical International (PMI) has proven to be an ideal supplier.
“At the time I took over procurement for American Medical Response we had several hundred suppliers we purchased from—a primary and the rest were alternates,” says David Twiss, national procurement director for AMR. “I sought a supplier that could consolidate the balance of those and provide the majority of what we use on a daily basis. PMI was my choice based on the breadth of products they can supply, ease of doing business with them, timely shipping and accurate invoices.”
Twiss explains AMR began doing business with PMI about six years ago as its primary biomedical repair company for everything but its cardiac devices. As that business grew, AMR added on durable medical supplies, and as they felt more comfortable with PMI’s ability to serve an organization as large as AMR they branched out into disposable medical supplies as well as new clinical initiatives.
“PMI respects our philosophy on how we procure,” Twiss says. “They stick to the criteria we determined was important to AMR through our clinical trials and they don’t deviate. They respect how we need to do business to remain consistent across all the states we operate in.”
Twiss adds he would recommend PMI to another EMS agency without any reservations whatsoever. “Given the size of their organization and the product lines they’re able to supply, they’re a great choice for a sole source distributor.”
