School Bus Rolls Over in Wisconsin, Two Students Hurt

Two children suffered minor injuries after a school bus rolled over in Sauk County on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

BARABOO, Wis. --

Two children suffered minor injuries after a school bus rolled over in Sauk County on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The Sauk County dispatchers said that they received a call at about 9:24 a.m. regarding the crash, which occurred on Hatchery Road, about one mile off of U.S. Highway 12.

Chief Deputy Chip Meister said that the crash wasn't sudden, rather a "slow-moving act."

"The school bus crossed over to the left-hand side of the road and eventually got into the soft snow or soft ground and rolled onto its side." Meister said.

The school bus involved was Bus 44, according to a statement issued by the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.

About 15 children were on the bus at the time of the crash, but only two injuries were reported. One child complained of a sore ankle and one complained of a sore nose, authorities said.

Jessica Fry, an office manager at the Sheriff's Department, said the bus was delayed two hours because of road conditions when it slid off the road and tipped over.

Parents were supposed to meet the children at the Baraboo Civic Center. The civic center was chosen as a point of contact as outlined under the Baraboo School District's Emergency Plan, authorities said.

Crystal Ritzenthaler, a Baraboo School District administrator, said that several students returned to school while some parents picked up their children.

"The students did not seemed alarmed or traumatized in any way. It was a roll over and the bus was not moving very fast fortunately due to the icy roads this morning," she said.

The Sheriff's Department was assisted by Baraboo police, Baraboo Fire Department and the Baraboo Ambulance, Baraboo School District officials.

Authorities said that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
