PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. --
Officials in Clearfield County said they’re having trouble tracking down the families of eight people involved in a minivan rollover on Interstate 80 on Monday.
According to a trooper in the Clearfield barracks as of 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, the victims have been identified but investigators haven’t been able to reach all of the family members, who they believe reside in the Brooklyn area of New York City and only speak Chinese.
A member of the Lawrence Township Fire Department 5 told WJAC-TV that first responders reported that several people were ejected from a light blue Town and Country minivan that flipped over several times on the eastbound lanes near mile marker 114.
WJAC-TV has learned that one person was pronounced dead at the scene, four people were flown to trauma centers by medical helicopter and three others were taken by ambulance to Clearfield Hospital.
Troopers said they are working with interpreters and that the victims’ names won’t be released until family members are notified.
Anyone who witnessed Monday’s crash or has information about the victims is urged to call Pennsylvania State Police in Clearfield at 814-857-3800.
