An EMT responding to an accident was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday. Reports indicate 24-year-old Esteban Bahena, an EMT from San Diego Medical Services, was putting out a roadside flare when he was struck by a vehicle that set off a chain reaction crash that involved three cars and a truck.

Notes on Trauma: PHTLS 7th Edition Rollout

The Prehospital Trauma Life Support program continues to grow and is making big plans to roll out the 7th edition texts and programs at EMS EXPO in Dallas in September. New this year will be the PHTLS Trauma First Response text, which has been specifically edited for responders who may not have EMT or paramedic training. PHTLS will also roll out the process for conducting TCCC or Tactical Combat Casualty Care courses designed for military medical personnel.

Low Budget Moulage Techniques

EMS educators frequently utilize moulage to provide students with opportunities to practice trauma patient assessment, but many education programs do not have the budget to purchase moulage kits along with all the other necessary equipment and supplies to run successful classes. This article provides suggestions for a few simple moulage techniques that require relatively commonly found items and result in very little cost to the instructor or training program.
