A major incident occurred in northern California this week when a charter bus flipped over, killing eight people and injuring dozens.
The bus was headed to a casino when the accident occurred Sunday evening. After the initial response, rescuers used flashlights and infrared sensors to search the tall grass at the crash site for more possible bodies.

New Jersey rescuer Ryan Stuart McCormick, age 34, died on September 26, 2008 following illness that his family attributes to his work as a first responder on 9/11/01 to the World Trade Center. Ryan had long served as a paramedic, first in Pennsylvania and then in New Jersey, and he most recently served as the Director of Emergency Management for New Jersey's St. Barnabas Healthcare System.

A change was made in Maryland medevac policy this week following the recent fatal crash there that killed four people.
Responders will now have to consult with a trauma center before ordering helicopter transport for patients who don't have obviously life-threatening injuries. The move is meant to cut risks by cutting Maryland's high percentage of EMS flight transports, but not everyone is onboard with the idea.
