ATLANTA --
Atlanta Fire and Rescue launched an internal investigation Friday after a CBS Atlanta report showed paramedics not helping a man shot at a Moreland Avenue package store.
The shooting happened during a robbery Dec. 4 at the Moreland Package store. Martez McKibben, 21, was shot and killed when he tried to help a fellow employee.
Surveillance video showed two armed men walk into the liquor store wearing ski masks and gloves.
Atlanta police said 19-year-old Terrone Anthony went after the store manager and his accomplice went after the cash. Police said Anthony shot McKibben in the face.
When Anthony tried to get away, the store's owner shot him once in the arm and leg. Anthony is recovering at the hospital.
The surveillance video, which was released Thursday and broadcast on CBS Atlanta, showed two paramedics and a firefighter walk into the store and look behind the counter where McKibben was lying.
"A paramedic is supposed to come in and see if it's anything they can do to help a person, and clearly the video shows they did not do that. They never laid a hand on my child and I'm very angry," said McKibben's mother, Trina. "He tried to save a life, and nobody tried to save his -- and that is very disheartening."
"They just looked at him. Didn't even reach down and feel for a pulse. When police asked us to leave the building he was still breathing," said store owner Shun Yu.
Thursday afternoon, Atlanta Fire released this statement: "Due to the release of video, by Channel 46 News, showing firefighters responding to the December 4, 2009 shooting at the Moreland Avenue Package store, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department has launched an internal investigation into the incident.
Until we’ve had the opportunity to thoroughly review the video, and take statements from all members responding to this incident, it would be premature to make any speculation on what did or did not take place. As, such this investigation is ongoing and until completed, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will not have any additional comments."
Meanwhile, Aaron Jackson was arrested Thursday in connection with the fatal robbery.
