Patient Dies After Ambulance Crash in Ohio
A dialysis patient, who was in an ambulance that crashed on I-75 in Dayton, died at Miami Valley Hospital.
DAYTON, Ohio --
A private ambulance carrying a patient, crashed on I-75.
The accident happened at noon in the southbound lanes of interstate 75.
Three people were inside the ambulance, including the patient, when it crashed into a concrete wall just north of the Springboro Pike exit.
The patient, needing dialysis, died later at Miami Valley Hospital. The two medics in the ambulance received minor injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the ambulance swerved to avoid debris in the road that had fallen from a truck. District Fire Chief Jim Beech said, "When they avoided debris, they ran into a wall."
The medic involved was from a private company called American Ambulance.
Crews called in extra manpower to help free the victims from the wreckage. As emergency crews worked the scene, police closed down two lanes of I-75.
Traffic was back to normal within a few hours. The crash is still under investigation.
