The accident occurred about 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Old Plum Grove Road and Algonquin Road (Route 62), according to Schaumburg police Lt. Gary Darrow.
Thirty-three-year-old Randy Orzada died shortly after 5 a.m. at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, according to a release from Schaumburg police.
Orzada worked as a paramedic in Chicago for 10 years, Fire Media Assistant Director Eve Rodriguez said. He lived in Chicago and was in Schaumburg for an unknown reason, she said.
"The Chicago Fire Department is deeply saddened and mourns the loss of Paramedic Randy Orzada," a release said.
Police are still talking to the driver of the car and do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident, according to Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl.
"I believe he was on his way to work," Nebl said of the driver, who had not been charged as of 11 a.m.
Orzada was walking on Algonquin Road when the car struck him, according to the release. The driver was not injured.
It is not yet known why Orzada was in the roadway, Nebl said.
Algonquin Road was closed to all traffic between Meacham Road and Old Plum Grove Road for more than three hours as crews investigated the crash, Nebl said.
