Arkansas Rescuer Resigns Amid Rape Charge

According to an arrest affidavit, Kevin Thomasson was on duty with the ambulance service during one of the alleged attacks.

A Bentonville firefighter has resigned after being charged with rape.

Kevin Thomasson, 33, was arrested on Thursday, posted bond on Friday and -- later that day -- told the city of Bentonville that he would be stepping down.

Thomasson had been a Bentonville firefighter since July 2001.

Rogers police began investigating him after a friend of an accuser came forward in late December. Officers said that during their investigation, another woman also said she had been raped by Thomasson on two separate occasions.

Both women were acquaintances of Thomasson, according to police.

Aside from being a Bentonville firefighter, officers said that Thomasson also worked at Arkansas Patient Transfer, a private ambulance service in Rogers. According to an arrest affidavit, Thomasson was on duty with the ambulance service during one of the alleged attacks.

"There are some things coming to light in the investigation that I can't connect on because we are still contacting and interviewing people," said Rogers police spokesman Ron Largent.

Thomasson faces two rape charges. He is scheduled to be in court on Mar. 5.

Officials with Arkansas Patient Transfer in Rogers did not respond to questions from 40/29 about Thomasson's employment status with the company.
