An Oologah medic was killed when her vehicle ran off a Rogers County road and struck a tree, officials said.

OOLOGAH, Okla. (AP) -- An Oologah medic was killed when her vehicle ran off a Rogers County road and struck a tree, officials said.

Patricia Ann Barron, an intermediate emergency medical technician with the Oologah-Talala Emergency Medical Services District, died at the scene of the 11 a.m. crash near Oologah, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Wednesday.

Barron's car had run off the road and into a ditch, re-entered the road and then hit the tree, troopers said.

''This is a tremendous shock for the emergency medical community,'' said Andy Hudson, director of the ambulance service.

Barron and her husband, Todd, worked as a team and joined the medical services district in July, according to a news release.

Patricia Barron worked at the same ambulance station where paramedic Emily O'Banion was attacked May 2.

O'Banion was stabbed by a man who had entered the building and demanded morphine.
