HOUSTON --
A car slammed into an ambulance in northeast Harris County, causing the ambulance to flip over Wednesday, deputies said.
Officials said the crash occurred on the feeder road on Interstate 10 East at Sheldon Road shortly after 9 a.m.
Investigators said the ambulance was responding to a call from another wreck when it collided with a gray car.
The impact knocked the ambulance on its side.
Deputies said the car had the right-of-way in the intersection, but the ambulance's lights and sirens were on.
"The gray car did have the green light from what I understand. All the motorists stopped for the ambulance except the gray car. The gray car went through the intersection," said Mauro Alvarado with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Six people, including 4- and 5-year-old children and three medics in the ambulance, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The conditions of the injured were not released, but officials said the children are expected to be OK.
The driver of the gray car was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
