Australian Responders Fall from Medical Helicopter

An Australian paramedic and a crew member were injured after falling more than 50 feet from a medical helicopter onto the deck of a merchant ship.


An Australian paramedic and a crew member were injured after falling more than 50 feet from a medical helicopter onto the deck of a merchant ship during a rescue that went awry on Nov. 9, according to News.com.au.

The responder was attempting to reach a sailor in the Torres Strait who was reportedly experiencing a medical emergency.

As the paramedic and crew member were being lowered down to the ship, the winch broke and the two responders fell all the way to the deck.

Both responders suffered multiple fractures, according to the newspaper, but were both reported to be in sable condition.

The responders and the sailors were all transferred to Thursday Island. The sailor also is reported to be in a stable condition.
