N.C. Responder Killed in Ambulance Crash

A first responder from the Fort Bragg military base was killed Oct. 22 in an ambulance crash while responding to a call.

Paramedic Paul Boyer the 3rd, age 54, had been employed with Womack Army Medical Center Ambulance Services for 11 months. He had served in EMS since 1976 and also had a history in law enforcement, colleagues reported.

Boyer was a front seat passenger in the vehicle and was responding for a mutual aid intercept with another military ambulance, officials told EMSResponder.com. The accident remains under investigation.

News stations have reported that Boyer was en route to the base's Hoke County parachute drop zone when the vehicle lost control and spun out into nearby trees after over correcting.

Another person in the ambulance was taken to Womack Army Medical Center and was treated and released.

Services will take place Nov. 4, 2009 at Koller Funeral Home and Mount Rose Cemetery in York, Pa.
