The www.ijis.org IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, is pleased to announce the appointment of two of its members to the www.nfpa.org National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Data Exchange for the Fire Service.
Michael Weins, director of public safety information systems for RCC Consultants, Inc., was selected as the Principal member of the Technical Committee, and Tom Dewey, principal of Advanced Justice Systems, was chosen as the alternate. The IJIS Institute representatives will assist in providing the information technology industry perspective in Technical Committee initiatives.
The NFPA Technical Committee on Data Exchange for the Fire Service has primary responsibility for documents that establish frameworks to provide for the identification, development, management, and exchange of essential data and enhance an inter-operable geospatial data environment for fire and emergency services. This includes documents that establish criteria for and promote the exchange and use of data in common formats critical to the support for decision making in all phases of administration, planning, prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery.
The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.
Paul Wormeli, executive director of the IJIS Institute, said, "I am thrilled to see that the IJIS Institute is now represented on this important and relevant NFPA Technical Committee and I congratulate our two members on their appointments. This is the first step in a valuable and positive relationship, and I am confident that the work of this Technical Committee will result in great things for the future of mission-critical information sharing in public safety."
