NENA & The Wireless Foundation Partner to Raise Awareness of 9-1-1 Nationwide
In support of National 9-1-1 Education Month, the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and The Wireless Foundation released an E-Brochure entitled: Making 9-1-1 Work for YOU!
Arlington, VA -- In support of National 9-1-1 Education Month, which kicked off yesterday, the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) and The Wireless Foundation released an E-Brochure entitled Making 9-1-1 Work for YOU!. The brochure is designed to provide essential information to the general public, children, teens, and parents about the 9-1-1 system and emergency response.
"For forty years, 9-1-1 has served as the vital link between the American public and emergency services," said NENA CEO, Brian Fontes. "Public education and awareness initiatives throughout the years have contributed in large measure to the incredible and ongoing success of our nation's 9-1-1 system. As an increasing number of consumers choose wireless devices as their primary means of communication, 9-1-1 education takes on an increased importance. It is our hope that the Making 9-1-1 Work for YOU! E-Brochure will reach all our citizens and help them understand the critical role they play in the emergency response process and what they can expect from 9-1-1 when utilizing various devices and technologies."
Nine groups, including the United States Congress, have recognized April as National 9-1-1 Education Month. As such, NENA and The Wireless Foundation are encouraging the 9-1-1 community, the wireless industry, public information providers, and all groups interested in promoting and enhancing the safety and welfare of the public to engage in 9-1-1 awareness and education activities this month, with the E-Brochure as a centerpiece of their messaging.
"It is imperative that the media, 9-1-1 professionals, teachers, government officials, and industry leaders are equipped with the tools necessary to engage in 9-1-1 educational efforts, especially in the face of an ever-changing telecommunications landscape," said David Diggs, Executive Director of The Wireless Foundation. "We think this brochure is a huge step in that direction."
