Georgia Woman Dies after Leap from Ambulance
The 32-year-old woman apparently committed suicide by jumping from a moving ambulance last week.
A 32-year-old Jefferson woman apparently committed suicide by jumping from a moving ambulance last week. The woman was being transported by a Banks County ambulance from the Banks Crossing area toward Athens when the incident happened on Hwy. 441 near Nicholson around 8 p.m. Thursday night.
A Jackson County Sheriff's Office incident report said the woman had been picked up at the Comfort Inn at Banks Crossing for a seizure. Banks County medical unit personnel said she had been in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend when the Banks County Sheriff's Office was called out to the scene.
The Banks County Sheriff's Office found copies of suicidal letters at the scene and called for an ambulance. Copies of the letters were in the possession of the Banks County ambulance personnel at the time of the incident.
An ambulance paramedic said he had turned around to get a phone to contact the hospital when he heard the woman's stretcher seatbelt hit the floor. When he turned around, the patient was jumping out the rear of the vehicle. She had been talking on her cell phone with the boyfriend just before the incident happened, the report said. She died on impact.
The Banks County EMS department declined to comment on the incident on the advice of the county attorney.
