The director of the Arab Ambulance Service has been fired, eight days after she and her son were charged with the manufacture of a controlled substance.

Arab Mayor Frank Cox said the decision to fire 56-year-old Carol Black Maze was difficult because of her years of service to the city. She was charged after the Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit allegedly found a crystal meth lab in her home on August eighth. Carol Maze was arrested the next day. She remains free on a $100,000 bond.

Her son, 36-year-old Roger David Maze, remains at large. His bond was set for $250,000.

According to city records, Carol Maze had worked for the city since 1983.

Agents said they did not believe Maze was directly involved with the lab, but that she was charged because the operation was in her home.

Drug unit director Ricky Phillips said numerous precursor chemicals and liquids consistent with a lab were found in the garage, a bathroom, closets and two bedrooms. But Carol Maze said she's innocent.
