Outdoor Torch Overturns, Burns 3 at Calif. Party

Three people suffered second and third degree burns after an outdoor torch overturned at a Fourth of July barbeque.


DEL MAR, Calif.

A backyard party ended with a fireball Wednesday night, sending three people to the hospital with second and third degree burns, reported 10News.

Police say an outdoor torch overturned at about 7:30 p.m., burning three party-goers who were attending a Fourth of July barbeque at a home in Del Mar.

According to one witness, 15 to 20 people were in the backyard of the house when a torch overturned, burning a woman's face and body.

The victim's sister and husband jumped in to help and were also burned.

According to 10News, one of the victims was airlifted to the UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest and the other two victims were transported by ambulance.

Police say that two of the three victims are in critical condition with serious second and third degree burns.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
