He fell 10 feet while pulling hose at a vacant furniture warehouse fire.
A Philadelphia firefighter was injured battling a four-alarm blaze at a vacant furniture warehouse early Tuesday morning.
The unidentified firefighter injured his back after he fell from an apparatus while pulling hose after responding to the three-story building on Font Street and West Girard Avenue around 2:30 a.m., according to WCAU-TV.
The firefighter was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition with non life-threatening injuries.
"He's in some pain, but we're just thankful that he's in serious condition, but it looks like we're going to have a recovery. A long recovery, but a recovery," Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers told the news station.
Crews were able to get the fire under control shortly before 4:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
