Two Dead, Five Hurt in Tenn. Ambulance, Pickup Crash

Two women were killed Tuesday morning when their truck collided head-on with an ambulance on Highway 58.

Misty Browning, 29, was driving with Jennifer Friddell, 30, when their 1997 Ford Ranger began heading north in the southbound lane, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.

The truck then collided with a Rural Metro ambulance, which was transporting a special needs child to a nonemergency doctor's appointment in Chattanooga.

Browning and Friddel, both of Georgetown, Tenn., were pronounced dead at the scene, which was in the northeast part of Hamilton County.

The five people in the ambulance were treated for minor injuries at local hospitals and released, Atkinson said.

Atkinson said it is unknown why the truck was in the wrong lane.

The investigation into the wreck is being handled by the Hamilton County Sheriff's traffic division.
