Six Firefighters Complete Paramedic Training in N.Y.
Nov. 13--CITY OF TONAWANDA -- Six firefighters assigned to the City of Tonawanda's career division were honored at last week's city council meeting for graduating from Erie County Community College's paramedic training program.
"This training provided the firefighters with knowledge and skills at the highest level possible for pre-hospital emergency care givers and consisted of both classroom and clinical studies," Fire Chief Charles Stuart said in a statement.
All six individuals volunteered for the training, which took a year to complete.
Capt. Patrick McNulty, Joe Briggs, Jeffrey State, Adam Sereno, Timothy Price and CaeSare D'Agostino completed the training.
The classes included anatomy, advanced patient assessment, electrocardiography, the study and administration of pharmacological agents and advanced airway management techniques.
Throughout the training, the candidates competed 50 tests, including a field diagnosis and state test.
All six also went to school and worked full time.
The training's costs were covered by a federal grant, and as a result, there was no cost to taxpayers.
"Having six more firefighters trained to this advanced level will essentially guarantee the department's ability to continue to provide advanced life support well into the future," Stuart said.
