A man died waiting for an ambulance, and a stabbing victim was taken to the hospital in a fire truck.
It happened New Year's Eve in the nation's capital after 100 firefighters called in sick. Nearby Prince Georges County crews were dispatched to emergencies as 11 D.C. ambulances sat empty.
While only two of 50 firefighters contacted accepted the request to work overtime on New Year's Eve, typically a very busy night.
