Ecuadorean Doctors Visit Richmond Ambulance Authority

A delegation of the Public Health Ministry of Ecuador spent time with the Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) last week to learn about EMS planning, as they begin to implement wider ambulance and trauma systems in Ecuador.

Dr Edgar Rodas, Trauma Critical Care and Emergency Surgeon, Trauma Surgeon at the main urban hospital in Cuenca, Ecuador, and Dr. Fernanda Andrade of the Public Health Ministry spent time at RAA receiving briefings on 9-1-1 protocol-driven call handling and dispatch and the data-driven approach to planning the delivery of an ambulance and first responder system.

Both doctors are part of a national task force that plans to enhance EMS and trauma services. Their visit was hosted by the Pan American Trauma Society, which is Headquartered at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.
