SafetyPAD Enterprise Reduces D.C. 9-1-1 Call Volume

EA is a powerful task scheduler utility that periodically scans for PCRs matching selected search criteria and then responds by performing one or more automated tasks

MINNEAPOLIS, MN— To help assist Washington, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ (FEMS) “Street Calls” program, which aims to improve health outcomes and support efficient resource utilization by locating frequent users of 9-1-1 emergency transports, SafetyPAD® provided the department with a tool for near real-time notification, the Enterprise Agent (EA).

EA is a powerful task scheduler utility that periodically scans for PCRs matching selected search criteria and then responds by performing one or more automated tasks.

EA also seamlessly integrates with most SafetyPAD® Enterprise components, including Case Flow clinical case management (QA/QI); BioView clinic alerting and syndromic surveillance; ePCR management; reporting; faxing; automatic ePCR delivery and more.

After an analysis of frequent calls to FEMS, data showed nearly 50% of regular 9-1-1 callers were homeless or transient. By utilizing SafetyPAD® BioView alerting, program administrators were able to meet the patient at the hospital or most recent location within minutes of completing their ePCR. Simple things, such as refilling medicine or finding patients a place to live, have helped reduce 9-1-1 calls by 60%.

EA is composed of a collection of user-configured “agent actions.” Each action includes a title, a schedule to determine how frequent an action should run, a PCR search executed each time an action is run, and a preset response, which determines what the action will do with PCRs that are matched by the search.

Each response adds unique and powerful functionality to EA. Several different response types are available, including “Auto Fax,” which can send all cases matched by the PCR and automatically fax matched cases.

The “Send An E-mail” response can send an e-mail alert to one, or several, recipients. The e-mail message is fully customizable and can even attach a HIPAA-protected PCR in .pdf format or a Google map with marker for each incident location.

The ability to generate a case flow task is also available. This type of response puts matched cases into a QA flow by generating a new “Case Flow Task” and assigning the task to one or more selected Enterprise users based on several configurable options.
