EMS World Editorial Advisory Board Member Announces Candidacy for NAEMT President-elect

Superior Air – Ground Ambulance Service is pleased to announce that Chuck Kearns, MBA, EMT-P, EMD-9, who works in Superior’s Ground Ambulance Operations Division, is seeking the position of President-elect for the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT).

“This is a very important election in the history of our industry and NAEMT,” said Chuck Kearns, who has served on the EMS World editorial advisory board for several years. “With a federal lead EMS agency being discussed; CMS considering major reimbursement changes for EMS providers; federal LODD benefits gaining support for all EMTs; and new educational opportunities presenting themselves to NAEMT, our association needs experienced, executive leadership for the future. That's why I'm running,” Kearns said.

“Chuck has held seats on many National Boards of Directors, and State and National Advisory Councils,” said Kim Godden, Superior’s Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs, and board member of the American Ambulance Association.

His EMS industry leadership experience includes:

  • Eight years (two terms) including being appointed chair of the Florida EMS Advisory Council;
  • President of the Florida Association of County EMS Agencies;
  • Board member of the Florida Ambulance Association;
  • Two terms on the American Ambulance Association (AAA) board of directors;
  • Two terms as vice chair of the Board for the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS);
  • EMS industry representative on the FEMA National Advisory Council;
  • Member of NHTSA & ACEP's EMS Culture of Safety Steering Committee;
  • NAEMT director for five years and Membership Committee chair;
  • AAA Professional Standards and CMS Working Group Committees;
  • Past director of the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services, and
  • Department of Homeland Security, EMS Fusion Center Technical Assistance Panel member.

“I have been the executive director of a very large county EMS and fire system and COO of private ambulance services. I’ve run calls as a volunteer, in busy urban systems, as a flight medic and worked in a rural service. I understand all aspects of EMS and the challenges EMS practitioners and managers face every day. I have the knowledge and experience to lead NAEMT in these fast-changing times. I believe NAEMT must expand our collaboration with other industry associations, along with federal and state agencies, to improve the EMS industry's visibility, image and funding, plus promote safety measures and education for our members,” said Kearns.
