EMLRC and EMS Magazine to Host Nation`s Largest EMS Competition

May 2007

     It gives me great pleasure to announce our partnership with the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center (EMLRC) to present the Bill Shearer International Advanced & Basic Life Support Competition, the largest EMS competition in the world.

     As part of the largest media source for first responders in America, we felt it was appropriate that we also be part of the largest EMS competition. In fact, we feel so strongly about the positive role that competitions can play in preparing EMS personnel to work in challenging environments that we invited EMLRC to present a session on how to put on a local competition at EMS EXPO, October 11-13, in Orlando, FL. For more information, visit www.emsexpo2007.com.

     Some of the benefits of participating, according to attendees of last year's competition, include:

  • Creates a positive peer pressure that raises competence levels;
  • Brings medics up to speed quicker on new procedures;
  • Makes training more meaningful;
  • Builds confidence;
  • Keeps infrequently used skills fresh;
  • And promotes individual responsibility within a team.

     We are also looking for venues in other parts of the country where we can initiate new competitions that will spread these positive benefits to a broader audience.

     With the expertise of EMLRC and the support of loyal sponsors, we can raise the level of EMS performance across the nation! Please let me know if you are interested in hosting such an event. E-mail scott.cravens@cygnusb2b.com.
