Mich. Woman Steals, Crashes Ambulance

A patient who allegedly stole an ambulance and crashed into Macomb County Sheriff's Office patrol cars was charged Monday.

Gunnar Theodore Ahlson, 42, of Farwell, Michigan is charged with carjacking, third-degree fleeing a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident Saturday in Clinton Township, township police said.

Ahlson was being transported from McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens to Auburn Hills when he overpowered two Medstar employees and stole their ambulance, police said.

Police initially responded to the area of Groesbeck and North Avenue on a report that an ambulance had been stolen. The suspect drove the ambulance north on Groesbeck to Hall Road, where he made a turnaround and headed westbound.

Ahlson went westbound on Hall Road then northbound on Schoenherr, where he crashed into to sheriff's patrol cars, township police said in a release Monday.

A township police unit began pursuing the ambulance at moderate speeds on westbound Hall Road near Romeo Plank, police said Saturday.

Ahlson is to be arraigned in 41-B District Court in Clinton Township Monday afternoon.
