Apr. 12—Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an ambulance on 15th Street earlier this week.
Julia Ann Reed, 52, died at DCH Regional Medical Center several hours after the crash Tuesday.
She was driving east on 15th Street when the driver of an ambulance turned from the westbound lanes of 15th Street and south onto 10th Avenue.
Reed was traveling at a high rate of speed, said TPD Lt. Teena Richardson. The driver of the ambulance slammed on the brakes but still collided with Reed's Nissan Sentra.
Reed's vehicle crashed into the Central High School sign. She was transported to DCH after the 3:39 a.m. crash and succumbed to the injuries around noon, Richardson said.
TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
