American Paramedic Association Announces New Executive Director

PRESS RELEASE

May 1, 2020 —The American Paramedic Association (APA), a recently formed advocacy organization for emergency medical services (EMS) providers, has established the foundation of the organization to enable sustainable and rapid growth for the benefit of paramedics nationwide. As the next step in its growth, the board of directors of the APA has announced the selection of Nicholas (Nick) Nolen as Executive Director of the APA.

“We’re excited that Nick has taken on this new role because many paramedics have expressed tremendous interest in working together to advance a new agenda for the future of paramedicine,” said Nick Nudell APA Board President, “We have made strong positions for changes, and now it is time to grow our membership to get our professional peers involved for continued advancement. With the passion, commitment, and professional leadership from Mr. Nolen, we can get this important work done.”

“I hope to help empower others to not only provide the best possible care to patients and our communities but to change the direction and face healthcare. We are on the cusp of transitioning into new levels of clinical professionalism, where we as providers and leaders support our patients in ever-increasing ways,” said Mr. Nolen. “I believe it is important to be on the forefront of this change constantly, and not only be a part of the future, but create the future of healthcare and our profession.”

Nick’s background includes 15 years as a paramedic with roles in technical writing, EMS leadership and business management, quality assurance, and education. His interest in paramedicine began with a Wilderness EMT (WEMT) course and continues today through his efforts to become a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).

Nick is a paramedic licensed in Colorado and South Dakota and holds a BS from Black Hills State University and an MBA from Western Governor’s University. He lives in the Black Hills of South Dakota and enjoys telemark skiing, running, biking, and cooking.
