American Red Cross Now Incorporating Tourniquets Into Training

Anderson, SC—In a flagship effort to teach bystanders how to control serious bleeding, the American Red Cross has announced a brand licensing partnership for the SOF Tactical Tourniquet Wide. This tourniquet, manufactured by Tactical Medical Solutions, Inc, is one of only two tourniquets approved by the Department of Defense and has been widely used by militaries and first responders around the world.

The Red Cross has recently updated their guidelines to include the proper use of tourniquets. The announcement comes on the heels of tourniquet guidance from the International Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) standards and recommendations from the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, which looked at tourniquet and performance characteristics.

Because of the SOF Tactical Tourniquet Wide’s reputation as the highest quality tourniquet on the market, it was chosen to be included in all Tramedic kits. Tramedic kits are designed so that they not only will be a cache of supplies for professional first responders, but they will allow untrained bystanders to quickly and effectively utilize their lifesaving components. The tourniquet is one of the most important components in these kits.

There are many situations in which a civilian may need to know how to use a tourniquet. It could be a large-scale event such as a natural disaster, mass shooting, or terrorist attack. It could also be an every day accident such as a car accident, injury by heavy machinery, or cut by broken glass. In any event, if someone is bleeding heavily, they may have less than 5 minutes to receive the proper medical care.

With hemorrhage control initiatives spanning from The White House to local communities, this partnership will be fundamental in teaching the importance of bystander care for traumatic events. Red Cross Health and Safety instructors teach valuable lifesaving skills to an average of 9 million people per year in businesses, schools and communities.

In an emergency, every second counts. With the backing of the Red Cross, you can be further assured that your Tramedic kit contains only the best lifesaving components and will be the one sure thing when disaster strikes.
