AMR Activates Disaster Response Teams to Help with Devastating Calif. Wildfires
SACRAMENTO ― American Medical Response (AMR) has deployed disaster response teams from California and across the United States in support of the disastrous wildfires plaguing Northern California. AMR is also mobilizing teams to provide emergency assistance through its agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). AMR’s National Command Center was activated on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 and will remain functional throughout the entire deployment.
AMR’s California operations have already deployed 36 ambulances, including 4 critical care units, and 72 crews to support the Sonoma area. AMR California also deployed 12 ambulances and 24 crews to the Napa region. Current Sonoma Operations is deploying full staffing of 13 ambulances plus two additional surge units and Napa Operations is deploying full staffing of 8 ambulances plus two additional surge units.
In addition to the California-based resources and hundreds of AMR employees that have already responded to the disaster, AMR, in partnership with our disaster response network providers across the United States, have deployed additional resources: 100 ground ambulances, 200 crews (paramedics and EMTs) from across the United States, 15 paratransit vehicles, Operations Incident Management Team (IMT) and Communications team members.
To ensure AMR’s California 911 systems are not impacted, FEMA resources and personnel will be brought in from out of state, and AMR’s in-state resources will remain under the direction and control of local EMS agencies and the State of California.
Crews are on a seven to 14-day activation, and will stay in the area as long as they are needed. Our crews are working closely with national, state and local agencies to provide emergency and non-emergency patient transportation and assist fire agencies with ambulance coverage. AMR’s California teams will continue to maintain our 911 ambulance systems in the surrounding region and assist our heath care and community partners.
We will provide information as applicable.
