New EMS Political Action Committee to Support Federal Candidates Focused on Quality Patient Care
Apr. 24—The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is pleased to announce the establishment of the NAEMT EMS Political Action Committee (NAEMT EMS PAC). NAEMT will use its PAC funds to help EMS elect or re-elect federal candidates who support quality prehospital and out-of-hospital care in every community across our nation. Advocacy on behalf of the EMS profession and quality patient care has been part of NAEMT’s core mission since its establishment in 1975. NAEMT has actively pursued this mission to ensure that the EMS perspective is understood and incorporated into federal government laws, regulations, and budgets. Through the tremendous advocacy efforts of NAEMT members, working in collaboration with other national and state EMS organizations, EMS has made good progress in educating congressional leaders and federal agencies on the key issues that impact the ability of EMS practitioners to provide quality care to those who need it every day, 24/7.
“Our communities have diverse needs, and there are many broad and overlaying issues that impact the quality of care that EMS provides, and more importantly, is expected to provide,” said Chuck Kearns, Chair of the NAEMT EMS PAC Steering Committee and Past President of NAEMT. “NAEMT’s EMS PAC will help bolster support at the federal level to benefit our communities and help maintain the high quality standards of care every patient should have, regardless of where they live.”
With over 65,000 members, NAEMT is the nation’s only organization that represents and serves the professional interests of all EMS practitioners, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders, and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care. NAEMT members work in all sectors of EMS, including government service agencies, fire departments, hospital-based ambulance services, private companies, industrial and special operations settings, and in the military.
NAEMT serves its members by advocating on issues that impact their ability to provide quality patient care, providing high quality education that improves the knowledge and skills of practitioners, and supporting EMS research and innovation.
