EMS World Top Innovation Award Submission
This device was founded in science and based on specific known gaps in the management of Tension Pneumothorax.
Needle tip has specific design (scalpel sharp, bi-beveled, with improved taper) to improve penetration through varied tissue thicknesses (design modification for a documented problem). This tip will improve insertion safety with controlled entry – yet STILL allows the operator to feel entry into the thoracic cavity.
¼ Turn Luer Lock between Needle & Catheter to prevent documented insertion failure (needle separating from the catheter during insertion) as this is related to stress/improper handling of the “old needle systems.”
Soft tipped catheter to decrease incidence of visceral pleura injury while catheter in position.
Fenestrated catheter offers 314% increase in air outflow over a standard 14ga and a 74% increase in air outflow over standard 10ga (it’s about air being in the wrong space).
Flexible catheter to decrease incidence of kinking during use.
In-line Heimlich Valve if needed.
*Catheter can be attached to standard suction tubing
